Hi!

My girlfriend has a 98 Saturn SL1. Many times when she drives it somewhere (e.g. store), parks, and returns a few minutes later, the car won't start. The the car won't even turn over - it's dead. She then has to disconnect and re-connect the battery, and THEN it starts. Happened twice today alone. The other day it even happend while the car was in idle in the drive- through. She had to pop the hood, do the battery thing and then it started.
It's driving her crazy, it's driving me crazy and the 3 car dealerships she has taken it to don't know what it might be or fix something that's not the real cause.
Help!

Electrical issues can be a PITA.
First some PM things.
Have the battery fully charged and tested.
Clean and tighten all connections on the battery, underhood fuse box, starter, and alternator.

Next lets look for other possible problems.
Check the main power fuse and it's receiver.
Check the starter relay and its receptical.
Check the nuetral safety switch (automatic) or the clutch start switch for a manual.
Lastly would be to check the igntion switch itself.

Good hunting and let us know. :)
