95 Saturn Not starting when hot

I just recently have had problems with my saturn. When the car gets hot it revs really high and if I shut it off it won't start until the car cools down. I'm just wondering if its the O2 sensor or something else. Also the check ingine soon light comes on when the car gets hot.

How many miles on the odometer?
What model/engine?
Does the car overheat?

Has the coolant temperature sender (ECTS) been updated to the newer brass tip design? Those old plastic tipped ones would wreak havoc with the idle, starting, and fuel economy.
