Electrical problem
1991 Other Saturn Models Two Wheel Drive 130, 00 miles

By troubleshooting, I have determined that in order for the fuel pump relay to deliver current to the fuel pump, I must have my turn signal switch actuated for left or right hand turn. If the turn signal switch is in the unactuated position, the engine will stall. With the switch actuated to either position, the engine runs.
When the turn signal switch is actuated, the dashboard direction arrow is bright in the turn direction and glows faintly in the opposite direction.
The front turn signals blink at their normal brightness, and the rear turn signals blink, but are dimmer.

The engine will run if the flasher relay is removed, but the turn signal switch is actuated.

Sounds like you may have some grounding issues. Start at the battery and be sure all is clean and tight, then work your way toward the interior. Look at the wiring as well for signs of rubbing or chaffing, there may be a short somewhere in thecolumn near the ignition switch causing the turn signal issue. This is a good one. Does the charging system work ok? Battery good as well? Look for water dmage in the underhood power/fuse center too.

Reply to 2carpro jack questions;

The battery is 8-1/2 years old, but the battery and charging systems were recently checked, due to what turned out to be a non-electrical related problem (loose serpentine belt). The battery was found to be Ok, but charging system output voltage low. The charging system was not checked again after the serpentine belt tensioner was replaced, but the car ran fine for several weeks untill suddenly stopping due to loss of power to fuel pump.

The car will crank and start fine, but soon stalls unless the turn signal or hazzard switch is actuated.
