2001 Saturn L200 Timing Chain Replacement

First of all thank you so much for your donation. You are right there are alot of problem's with the timing chain's in the early saturns they had issue's with there timing chain tensioner's chain's jumped and broke. There is no way of telling by looking at the engine if it was changed. There was a campaign where saturn changed the chain on some of them for free.I would go to a chevy dealer and see if they can do what is called a nvh which is a national vechile history search to see if the chain was replaced under the campaign. You would need the last eight of the vin to have them do that.

If you find it hasn't been changed then yes I would change it as soon as you can there is no warning for failure.I would see if the timing chain campaign has been done though if it hasn't then there is a chance you could get a free chain replacement.

Here's the last eight of the vin range that has the affected timing chain's if it's within 1Y504884 thru 1Y559453 then that car has the faulty timing chain and has the recall on it.
