2004 Saturn Ion removing wiper arm

How do you remove the wiper arm off the shaft that comes through the plastic beteen the window and hood. There is a round cap on top, does that come off somehow.

The black caps are just pushed in, you can pop them off with a small screw driver. Under the caps you'll find a 13mm nut holding the arms on. Remove the nut. Then there is a special tool to seperate the arms from the wiper transmission. But sometimes you can tap on the threaded part while pulling up on the wiper arm, or attempt to slide the wiper arm up the windshield to break it free from the transmission. Be careful of the windshield, they crack easy.
