Smells problem
1998 Saab 900 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 157K miles

Last night my car started hard, but it did start and I smelled a faint rubber smell while driving (only two miles to get home from work). Later, I took it out, it started fine and then my battery light went on and I lost my power steering. It seems my heater is working. When I turned it off, there was alot of steam from under the hood. I let it cool off and about an hour later, I restarted it with no problem, lifted the hood and saw my coolant was very low. I refilled it, but the battery light is still onl I have been dealing with a coolant leak for a while (replaced some hose and checked radiator which seems okay). I also had the sepentine belt replaced recently. I should also add that we are experiencing record cold temps in this area. Any ideas?

With the power steering, cooling, and charging system not working, it really sounds like you lost that new serpentine belt! This time I think you need ALL pulleys checked for bad bearings and a new tensioner installed.

Answer to your PK: No it's not labor intensive, unless the a/c compressor, water pump or power steering pulley(s) need attention.
