Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Does it have a manual or automatic choke?

Can you confirm the model year as a 1974? I don't believe they were made then.

Check the points. I have seen the spring on them get weak and as a result, the timing would change. Also, check the throttle plate for play. The rod that holds it may be worn and causing a leak.

Chances are it still needs some fine tuning with the air / fuel mixture. You may want to try that if there is still a dead spot. Also, make sure the accelerator pump is working properly.
