Rough idle, jerking back and forth when brake applied, accelerating on its own, eating tons of gas - RPM gauge

I have a 2001 mercury sable - thought I got bad gas one day - right after fill up car idled rough especially when stopped (not in park - in drive like at a stoplight) added water remover - thought it got better but I was sadly mistaken - added different fuel along with fuel injection cleaner - no change - car cant idle while foot on brake without wanting to die - jerks back and forth - car accelerates on its own, I actually have to place my foot on brake to maintain speed limits - eating gas like crazy you would think I had a hole in the tank - check engine light on along with abs light (which I assume is brakes - thats another issue) rpm gauge races up and down - just jerks back and forth big time like it just wants to take off on its own or idles so rough it dies - have to coast to stops in neutral to keep car running. Now I am hearing noises - that just started last night? Help is needed for this single mother - some one said plugs - changed those back in October of last year - did not change wires though

You need to get the car scanned. Autozone or your local auto parts store should do it for free. It could be a number of things causing the surge. The scan will tell you exactly what it is. Hope you don't live too far from one of these places. I know how it is being a single mother. Good luck. ;)

If it doesn't say expert by name it's not from 2car pros. You do need this scanned and fuel pressure checked. Because of abs you need apro type scanner which auto parts stores don't have. If you are mechanically inclined try cleaning your throttle plate on both sides with choke cleaner as well as iac hole.
