It needs to be long enough to make sure all the systems work. The engine needs to get warm to check the heater and air conditioner.

Make sure to drive over different terrain, bumps, hills, tight turns, acceleration and braking. Depending on the problem reported it may take a longer test drive to see the symptoms.
