2003 Renault Laguna Renault Laguna 1.9dci Tourer

I have a noise which seems to come from the front left/under bonnet area. It only happens in 3rd and 4th gears, when applying the throttle, and at 2000 to 2500 revs. It goes away when I back off the gas or depress the clutch. The noise is a rattling/grating kind of noise like something is in contact with something it should not be.
I can feel no noticeable reduction in performance or gear change or clutch operation, nor is there any vibration or strange feeling that I can feel through the gear change, throttle, or clutch pedal.

Any guidance would be gratefully received.

Regards, Peter
