I need to take the front cover of the steering wheel off to replace the horn braket but the screws are stripped.

My question is how do a disengage the drivers side airbag. Before I start either trying to extract the screws or boring them out I would like to disengage the airbag so it does not go off.

Thanks,
Brent

According to Mitchell, you turn off key, remove it from ignition, then disconnect and shield the negative battery cable (so it cant accidentally make contact). That is all the info they give on deactivationg your air bag. Just be sure thekey is off and out of ignition when you hook the power back up, and you may want to be sure you have the stereo theft code too, otherwise you wont have a stereo when you finish

I was told that there may be a seperate power source for the airbag just in case you are in a accident the airbag will deploy if the cable is cut to the battery.
Is that not the case.

If you disconnec the Negative cable at the battery, you kill the ground for the entire car, it cant have power if there is no ground. Always unhook Neg terminal, that way any capacitors cant discharge without ground
