2000 Porsche 911 Linkage Problem?
Transmission problem
2000 Porsche 911 Two Wheel Drive Manual 85,000 miles
I suddenly lost the use of the gear shift as I pulled into a parking lot in second gear. The car remains in second, the gear shift moves up and down easily (but not across to 3rd and 4th), but does not engage (ie change gears). It is driveable in second only.

You will need to get access to the underside of the vehicle where the linkage attaches to the trans to see what happened. It sounds like it may just be the linkage. There are 2 cables that run from shifter to trans, one of them may have broken or come loose.

Thank you for the response. Do you have an idea of what this type of repair would cost?

If you can find a shop that will work on Porsche, you will save a ton over the dealer (about $120 hr). Hard to tell without knowing what is actually wrong with it as far as price goes
