Transmission problem
2006 Pontiac Vibe Two Wheel Drive Automatic 71000 miles

I was told I needed to have the transmission flushed out because the fluid was old and very dark colored and the gaskets needed to be cleaned also in the process. Do I really need this service or will changing the fluid be just as good/ helpful for maintiance. I am not having any problems with the transmission at all. I was told this would keep a problem from happening down the road. You know forget it. I just read your little notice down below. How can I trust you to give me a straight answer if you only guarentee a " certified answer" if I pay you! Thanks anyway, seems ALL MECHANICS are the SAME

Thank you sooooo much! You have just saved me money I don't have.
Do you

You can read the title of each poster at the side of their user name. If it says Certified Tech then they are certified in mechanics of some sort and have a lot of knowledge and experience. If it says anything other than certified tech (such as "great helper" ) then they are not certified but most are still very helpful, otherwise they would not be allowed to remain a member of 2CarPros.

Now on to your question, I would not suggest having the transmission flushed as this often stirs up contaminents that settle at the bottom of the transmission. This can cause problems such as slipping or hard shifting, that you are not currently experiencing. Simply draining the fluid and replacing the filter is best to do as maintenance since you are NOT experiencing issues with the transmission.
