I have a 2003, 4 cylinder Pontiac Sunfire with approximately 69k miles that will crank (turn) but not start. All of the electrical components work. What kind of test can I personally perform prior to taking it to the repair shop?

You can check for lack of fuel by spraying carb cleaner into the trhottle body and see if it starts for a moment.

A mechanic states that my problem is the fuel pump and that's the only logical explanation after checking the car out. What do you think?

Hi A,

The days of carbs are pretty well history, terminology can be confusing. You are right on the fuel injection, but you do have a throttle body.
And this is what you need to access.
