Well, if it is a electronically controlled unit, you don't. For every thing else, you align the distributer to the TDC of #1, install it, (so it's timed to zero), and turn the distributer so the timing is right. But.
I think most Pontiac's by 94 are electronically controlled. If the Hall effect and related sensors are properly installed it times itself. And, with a new crank and cam, it should all be relatively dead on anyways.
