1992 Pontiac Sunbird starter or neutral sadty switch?

Sometimes the car will start fine sometimes nothing not even a click I am thinking the solenoid is shot but I want to check the safty switch to be sure can you tell me where it is located and also a tip for removing the starter would be helpful as well thanks

First I would be checking the neutral safety switch.

It is located on the transmission near where the gear shift select lever connects to the trans.

Could even be the ignition switch.

When switch is turned to start and nothing happens do the warning lights go out and then back on? Radio go out an dback on? Stay off?
