1971 Pontiac Lemans V8 Two Wheel Drive Manual 0

I bought a rebuilt pontiac 400. It had been sitting for about 5 years since rebuild. Never fired. Having installed I find the rear main is leaking. I do not know if the seal was replaced in the rebuild. How do I fix or replace?

I would be happy to donate after I receive an answer

If it's a rope seal you'll really need to get a tool called a chinese bandit. It grabs the rope and pulls it out. If it's rubber seal you can drive it out enough to grab it and then install another. You need to take the pan and rear main cap off to do this in the car. Make sure teh rope seal is cut squarely after install, then dab a little silicone on it. Even the rubber seal after install before mating thecap.
