1966 Pontiac Lemans Problem shifting

Transmission problem
1966 Pontiac Lemans V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 189851 miles

I was just out driving to the store. When I got back in the car, I could not shift out of park. After a couple of attempts it did shift. I got home, pulled in the garage, and attempted to shift into park - no dice.

I have not experienced this before with the car. It almost feels like an obstruction in the center console but I have no idea.

Any help and ideas are greatly appreciated!

disconnect your shift linkage at the bottom of the steering column to see if you can get to the problem. It could be teh nuetral safety switch which may be inside the car at the bottom of the column. By doing it this way you can locate where the problem lies. I'd bet it's your nuetral switch....
