1987 Plymouth Voyager V6 Random Stalling

We have a 1987 Voyager V6 with 137K miles. It usually starts easily and it always runs fine with no sign of any problems.

Every once in a while, while driving along, it stalls. No warning, no roughness - the engine just stops running. We've taken long trips where it has never happened, or it can happen a couple of times on a short trip. It usually starts back up easily, but a couple of times it has been tough to restart. Once in a while it gives a little trouble when first started too. Letting it sit for a while seems to make a restart easy.

The check engine light does not come on.

The dealer found the hose to the fuel pressure regulator was off, but replacing it didn't help.

They suggest cleaning the idle-control motor, but are concerned with removing it without damaging the trottle body. As an alternative, they suggest a fuel injector cleaning might clean the idle control motor some.

Anyway, I hate to just throw money at an old car and am eager to get some suggestions about the problem.

Thanks!

Usually if they shut off without warning it is a sensor problem, even without codes. Fuel will feel like it is running out of gas, not quick like shutting it off. When it wont start, need to check for spark out of the coil, then at the plugs

It wouldn't start at first today after a short drive. No spark at plugs. I didn't get to check the coil.

Any sensors in particular that should be checked?

Thanks.
