Olds88 with engine smoke

So I have a 1996 Oldsmobile 88 with about 139,000 miles on it. The car has been sitting in my driveway for about 2weeks. The car was running fine, but today when i went out to drive it the battery was dead. So i plugged some jumper cables up to it and attempted to jump it from another vehicle. Then I attempted to start the Olds up with the jumper cables still attached and all this smoke started to come out from the engine. So i shut off the car and left the jumper cables on the battery. After letting the battery charge i took the jumper cables off and I started the Olds up again and now the check engine light is on and a little bit of smoke is coming from the back of the engine and near gas line i think. Anyone know what i should do about this problem
