MOONROOF WILL NOT CLOSE/ OPENS TOO

The moonroof sometimes will open and seem to go too far back. Once this happens, it acts as if the moonroof is all the way forward by not allowing the forward button to do anything while the back button makes a clicking noise from the moonroof motor. I dropped the roof and removed a 4 pin molex connection that seems to disable the auto features of the moonroof such as auto open and knowing when to stop to be closed. What should I replace/ test from here?

Thank you for the donation.

Here are procedures for testing. Go through them and see if you come up with anything.

TRACK & MOTOR SYNCHRONIZATION
1. Remove glass panel and power sun roof actuator.

2. Using a small flat-blade screwdriver, align the timing hole in the cable/cam mechanism with
the front screw hole used for the glass panel by pushing cable/cam forward or rearward.
Install Timing Pins (J-41718) in front glass panel mounting screw hole on each side of sun
roof to ensure alignment. Leave timings pins in position until power sun roof actuator is
reinstalled.

3. Inspect power sun roof actuator gears for proper alignment. Timing hole (located in larger gear) must be on centerline between gear centers. If alignment is incorrect, reconnect power sun roof actuator harness connector and carefully used power sun roof switch to move gears to required position.

4. Reinstall power sun roof actuator and glass panel. Remove timing pins. Reinstall headliner.
Check power sun roof for proper operation.

TEST 2: POWER SUN ROOF DOES NOT CLOSE

1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Momentarily press power sun roof switch rearward (OPEN position). Press and hold power sun roof switch forward (CLOSED position). If power sun roof does not operate properly, go to next step. If power sun roof operates properly, problem is intermittent.

2. Operate left front power window. If window operates, go to next step. If window does not operate, repair Retained Accessory Power (RAP) circuit as necessary.

3. Disconnect power sun roof switch harness connector. Connect a jumper wire between power sun roof switch harness connector White and Orange wire terminals. If power sun roof does not closed, go to next step. If power sun roof closes, go to step 24.

4. Remove jumper wire. Measure voltage between power sun roof switch harness connector White wire terminal and ground. If 4.8 - 5.2 volts is indicated, go to next step. If 4.8 - 5.2 volts is not indicated, go to step 14.

5. Measure voltage between power sun roof switch harness connector Brown wire terminal and ground. If 4.8 - 5.2 volts is indicated, go to next step. If 4.8 - 5.2 volts is not indicated, go to step 21.

6. Measure voltage between power sun roof switch harness connector Orange and Brown wire terminals. If 4.8 - 5.2 volts is indicated, go to next step. If 4.8 - 5.2 volts is not indicated, go to step 22.

7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect power sun roof switch harness connector. Disconnect power sun roof actuator harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between power sun roof actuator harness connector Green and Blue wire terminals. Momentarily press power sun roof switch forward (CLOSED position). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, go to step 26.

8. Check Green wire between power sun roof control module and power sun roof actuator harness connectors for open, high resistance or short to ground. If wire is okay, go to next step. If problem is found, repair Green wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

9. Check Blue wire between power sun roof control module and power sun roof actuator harness connectors for open or high resistance. If wire is okay, go to next step. If problem is found, repair Blue wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

10. Connect a jumper wire between ground and power sun roof limit switch module harness connector Yellow wire terminal. Measure voltage between power sun roof actuator harness connector Blue and Green wire terminals. Momentarily press power sun roof switch forward (CLOSED position). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 28.

11. Check Yellow wire between power sun roof control module and power sun roof limit switch module harness connectors for open or high resistance. If wire is okay, go to next step. If problem is found, repair Yellow wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

12. Check Blue wire between power sun roof control module and power sun roof limit switch module harness connectors for open or high resistance. If wire is okay, go to next step. If problem is found, repair Blue wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

13. Check for poor connection(s) or connector damage at power sun roof limit switch module and power sun roof control module harness connectors. If connections are okay, replace power sun roof limit switch module. If problem is found, repair connection as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

14. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Open driver's door. Disconnect power sun roof control module 4-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage at power sun roof control module 4 -pin harness connector Yellow wire terminal. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 19.

15. Measure voltage between power sun roof control module harness connector Yellow and Black wire terminals. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 20.

16. Check for poor connection(s) at power sun roof control module 4 -pin harness connector Black and Yellow wire terminals. If connections are okay, go to next step. If problem is found, repair connection(s) as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

17. Check White wire between power sun roof switch and power sun roof control module 4 -pin harness connectors for open, high resistance or short to ground. If wire is okay, go to next step. If problem is found, repair White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

18. Check for poor connection or connector damage at White wire terminal of power sun roof switch and power sun roof control module harness connector. If no problem is found, go to step 29. If problem is found, repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

19. Repair open or high resistance in Yellow wire between instrument panel fuse block and power sun roof control module 4 -pin harness connector. After repair, go to step 30.

20. Repair open or poor connection in Black wire between ground and power sun roof control module 4 -pin harness connector. After repair, go to step 30.

21. Repair short to ground in Brown wire between power sun roof control module and power sun roof switch harness connectors. After repair, go to step 30.

22. Check Orange wire between power sun roof control module and power sun roof switch harness connectors for open or high resistance. If wire is okay, go to next step. If problem is found, repair Orange wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

23. Check for poor connection or connector damage at Orange wire terminals of power sun roof control module and power sun roof switch harness connectors. If no problem is found, go to step 29. If problem is found, repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

24. Check for poor connection or connector damage at power sun roof switch harness connector. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

25. Replace power sun roof switch. After repair, go to step 30.

26. Check for poor connection or connector damage at power sun roof actuator harness connectors. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

27. Replace power sun roof actuator. After repair, go to step 30.

28. Check for poor connection or connector damage at power sun roof control module harness connector. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step 30.

29. Replace power sun roof control module. After repair, go to next step.

30. Retest system operation. If problem still exists, return to step 3.
