1987 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Misfires, dies

1987 Oldsmobile Delta 88 V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 180000 miles
I have a 1987 Olds Delta 88 that is misfiring and dying on me. I had the plugs and wires changed it didn't help. It jerked when I give it gas, it's like it's not getting the gas right. It either jerks or dies, once I get it going it's ok until I slow down again. Also I smell gas pretty bad now which never happened before. Please does any one have the slightest clue? Guy at Auto Zone said it might be I need a new fuel filter or lines are plugged up. Is the fuel filter on top or bottom of the car? Thanks!
