1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Engine trouble

1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 194000 miles
My engine was spuddering with loss of power! As i was driving trying to get it home i heard a loud pop come from the engine. The engine immediatly died. Now when i try to start it it spudders and backfires.
