1987 Oldsmobile Ciera 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

i have a code reader, it is compatible with my car but im only gettin one code which is the "system pass" code. Why wouldnt it be giving me codes? What can I do to fix this?

Hi there,

If there are no set fault codes in the system this sis what you will get, to test the code gathering ability of the ECU and the reader. Induce a code, say unplug the TPI and start the engine and try to rev it, this should set a code to read.

TPI. Throttle position indicator, that is the sensor at the throttle body, I used that as an example as it is easily access to unplug to see if the reader will read any code.
