I have a 2002 Olds Bravada with 145,000 miles, the air may be cold or warm at first but will soon be the opposite a little while later. My repair center said it has low suction which caused the air to be cold and warm at times. There suggestion was to replace the compressor and some tubing to clear up the situation at over $1100.00. Is all of this recommended or necessary, at first they thought it might be a switch.

I dont think so. I would first buy myself a can of refrigerant. The kind with the gauge built into it. And first plug it up to see if it is low, if it is low, you have a small leak. If it is normal then we need to see if the clutch is engaging in the center of the pulley on the compressor, verify this and we will take it from there.

If it is low. Then turn the a/c on full blast, and watch the center of the pulley to see if it is engaging. Mostlikely its not. Get your self a small can of a/c system sealant with die in it, put recommended amount into the system, then fill with refrigerant. All I ask is that you follow the directions and you'll be fine, do not be intimidated, thinking you will be disfigured or something if this goes wrong, because that wont happen, that is what I used to think before I became an experienced tech.
