My car has been driving fine until lately it has gotten where it wants to die everytime I stop at a light or stop sign. It even died twice while I was driving and I managed to pull off the road and it started right up. We have changed the plug wires and plugs, checked for vaccum leaks, changed fuel filter and throttle position sensor and are at our witts end. We have had several mechanics tell us if it dies and then startes right up it most likely the computer. The problem is which computer. We have one under the passanger side dash and one under the hood. We have tried to have the problem checked with the tester but it keeps reading "Error" and can't be checked. Please let us know where to go from here.

90 percent chance is its the crank sensor. If it was the computer it would be the one on passe3ngers side inside car but I think its the crank sensor. The best way to tell is by checking for spark when it dies and if there is none then replace cranksensor. Also you can use a long screwdriver and lightly tap on the crank sensor while its running and if it stutters or stalls then also replace it.

Mastertechtim,
We changed the crank sensor and the car still runs rough. It feels as if it is going to die every time we stop at a stop sign or red light. We have to shift into neutral to take the strain off the motor so if doesn't die. Any advice as what to check now?

If ifeels like it is stuck in gear when coming to a stop then I think our problem is the torque converter clutch solenoid. Whenyou restart does it die as soon as you put it in gear kind of violently

No. After it dies and we restart it runs okay. It seems to start running rough after it reaches the normal running temp. And it runs okay until we stop and then it wants to die.

If I could feel it iwold know in a second whats wrong but its real hard to tell without feeling it. I would check the egr valve and make sure its not hanging open or has a piece of carbon stuck in it. Check the coils for resistance to make sure they are all the same
