Air in the cooling system will cause no heat to come out of the dash vents & overheating. So when engine has cooled sufficiently check the coolant level. If that is good there is a possibility the water pump has failed causing no coolant circulation. This would cause overheating and no heat from dash vents. That is really it unless the thermostat could be installed backwards but I doubt that.
