PICKUP DROPS POWER AND STALLS AT A LOSS
1987 Nissan Truck
This is a 4x4 1987 Nissan pickup standard with over 300,000 miles. The Nissan service department is at a loss as is the Nissan tec support they talk to. The problem was that it dropped power and would stall out when I came to a stop or drop power while driving even on freeways and act like it was not getting gas. The dealershlp said it was a hi low idle problem and something was clogged. They replaced the distributor, switch throttle, sensor head tmp, handle fr and thermo elec kit. This fixed the problem for 3 weeks then it came back but not as bad. It seems to be a lighter version of the same problems. The weather is getting warmer and it seemed to almost disappear when it was warm but come back on cold mornings or days. The problem often goes away after the inital morning occurances. It does happen every day. They replaced 2 valve solenoids but this did not help. Now they think that maybe some accellerator control box that has hoses inside might have a leak in a hose. This is a $1000 part but they hope they can get inside or find a used part. They are waiting on Nissan to get back to them to see if they think this makes sense. The problem they said is that there is no one at Nissan that knows trucks this old. I have spent $1500 and I have a dangerously unreliiable truck. When it stalls turning corners I loose power stearing and have trouble completing the turn until it restarts. Does anyone have any ideas on where I can get help on this old of a vehicle?
