we seem to have lost (some) turning radius and have a squeal and i know we have bad cv boots. we are on a trip and have about another 500 miles to home. can this be dangerous to us and what could this be? its only on one side and seems to drive fine otherwise with no clinking or knocking...

Bad CV boots allow the grease to be thrown out of the joint, when all the grease is out, you have 8 hours or less before the cv joint comes apart, when that happens, the car wont move! As for the squealing, you need to have the alignment checked, do it when you have the cv fixed.
