Engine Mechanical problem
2001 Nissan Primera 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 114000 miles

Hi! I noticed today a loud ringing noise coming from my engine followed by smoke from the exhaust. The car did not stop or stall, but, am concerned for the issue.

What is the problem? also kindly let me know how much it will cost to fix it. A couple of days ago the emission malfunction light also came on.

Please advise.
