Nissan Pathfinder Repair Question

Air idle control vavle
I own a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder with 65000 miles. A mechanic told me I need a new air idle control valve. The SUV idle ranges from 800 rpm to 1200 rpm. Is this something I could clean or do I need to change it completly?Thanks.
