I have a petrol 1.6 litre Pulsar. It's running as well as new but on occasions the engine malfunction indicator comes on and the motor just shuts down.
You can be travelling along at 100klm ph and bang the fault occurs. (It also effects the power steering.) The car will not restart immediately, but if you wait 10 to 15 minutes it starts up and runs beautifully until the next event. It can be very dangerous situation on highways or intersections. I suspect it may be a sensor to computer problem but it surprises me that the computer could shut down the car and leave you in a potentially dangerous situation. I have replaced the in tank fuel filter, plugs, air filter and one of the spark plug coil rods which looked a little burnt but it has had no effect.
Thanks

You really should get the computer scanned for codes. Not knowing the codes, I am guessing it is either your camshaft position sensor. The ECM "sees" the voltage from the CMP sensor for ignition timing and to push fuel through the injectors. If there is no reading from the sensor, ECM doesn't know when to send fuel, thus the car shuts down.
