1991 Other Nissan Models Missing at idle and overrun

We have just taken ownership of a 1991 Nissan Pulsar from an elderly relative who has put less than 10,000 miles on it in the past 10 years.

It runs very well except when warm in stop/start traffic at idle it occasionally misses. Or, to be more accurate, the engine briefly stops and the rev counter dives. It picks up again before stalling. It does not seem like one cylinder missing.

I have also noticed that if I hold the transmission in 2nd and take my foot off the throttle, sometimes the rev counter will take a split-second dive.

This problem only occues at no throttle, there is never any hint of miss or hesitation from part through full throttle.

I would be most grateful for any thoughts. Thanks and best regards, Greg.
