Press gas pedal no acceleration

2003 Nissan Murano 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 91000 miles
For the second time in a month - i have been driving in heavy traffic in the rain and when i press my gas pedal the car does nto move. There is no reving it seems dead then accelates forward quickly. No engine lights come on -
