I bought a pre-owned Nissan Maxima SE 2000 with 67800 miles on it. It has 2000 miles added on it now.

I have 3 questions regarding my car.

1. How do I know whether my previous owner has performed transmission flushing service on it?Any simple way to find it out?

2. The hear a squealing niose from my engine during cold starts/morning. Noise goes off after 5mins of drive. What could have gone wrong? Should go get prepared for any replcement?

3. Occasionally the AC display goes off but after some time it is Ok. Where do I check first?

4. When is it better to get the power trasmission service/timing belt changed?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Here is a copy of the reply I made to another question about the squealing noise. This applies if your problem is not a loose belt:

I had just this problem on my 1995 Nissan Presea CT2 1800cc. I thought it was just a belt issue, but in fact insufficient lubrication to one camshaft was causing serious wear on the cam lobes, hence the noise. According to the mechanic this problem is very common on several Nissan models, i.E. It is a design flaw in the cam lubrication system. I needed a new camshaft, lifters, engine flushed, and replacement with semi-synthetic oil.

It is a 5 minute job to remove the valve cover and check the camshaft. I strongly recommend that you do this immediately.
