Hi I bought a 96 Nissan maxima last year.
Ever since I bought it it's been making this wierd grinding noise from the engine. Now it getting louder and louder. I showed it to a machnic and he said it's the belt tenshinar so I replaced it but it still makes noise. Now he tells me it the Ac compressor he says replace that and the noise will go away for good. So is he right or worng.

Hi t here, if the clutch bearing on the compressor is failing this will make a noise, if the comp itself is failing it will be noisy only when the A/C is on and the comp cycles over, I feel that you need a second opinion on this as your first mechanic sound unsure about what he is looking at, a good mechanic will be able to let you know what the problem is by listening to the actual noise first hand,
