Engine Whine

I have a 1998 Nissan Frontier, manual, 75,000 miles.

The last month or so the truck has developed an intermitent whine. Sounds like it is coming from the right front. I only hear it when the vehicle is moving, not at idle - other than that the pitch varies, but not necessarily with speed. I have also had a problem with my dash lights going out when I turn on my headlights, but I don't know if that is a related electrical issue?

Brakes? Alternator? Help!

Thanks

With the lights on the dash going out when you turn on the headlights make sure your dash dimmer isnt turned off or low turn the light knob if you can with headlights on does it make them brighter. With the whining could be a belt slipping iwth car running and in neutral turn the wheel side to side and turn on the ac do you hear the squealin then? If so then the belt is slipping replace or tighten.
