2003 Nissan Frontier 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I was trying to find out what could be the problem with my truck. When driving at 60 MPH in 5th gear, my RPM reading is near 3000. When I go between 60 and 65 mph, the RPMs go up to read over 3000. It also feels like I am driving in 3rd or 4th gear, this seems to cause my truck to consume more gas than normal. I would like to take it in to have it checked, but before I do, I want to at least have an idea what might be wrong.

You may have a bad throttle position sensor. What does it do when you are at an idle? And do you have an engine light on?

When the truck's in idle the engine sounds like its running fast, and it kind of makes a rattling sound. There isn't any lights that come on, which would kind of make life easier. Someone mentioned to me that my timing belt could be messed up as well. Is this also a possibility?

Well if the timing belt is busted, It wouldnt be revving high, it would conk off almost immediately.I would still check the vacuum hoses and the throttle position sensor along with the map sensor

Thanks for the advice. When I take the truck in that's what I'll have the mechanic check on.
