2003 Nissan Altima 2.5s, 85,000 miles

I have recently noticed a wininding sound, particularly when the car is cold. It is consistently there through different gears in the manual transmission, and it does not dissipate when clutch engaged, or the car is in neutral and moving, When the car is still, there is no winding sound. I thought it might be trnasmission related however if that were the case, wouldn't the sound be eliminated when the car is in neutral? Let me know what you think.

Since it is speed related lets start with tires and or wheel bearings. If you can narrow down a side that the noise is coming from then support the vehicle on stands and check for play in the wheel bearing or irregular tire wear patterns
