Hey guys,
This weekend I replaced all four struts on my girlfriends Altima. I followed the procedure and torqued everything to spec. But while working on the front drivers side I accidently dislocated the cv axle from the back of the hub assembly. It simply pulled apart at the boot, letting the spined axle come free. I matched up the spines as best I could and pushed the rotor/hub assemply back onto the shaft. After finishing the other struts with no issues, we noticed a vibration at highways speeds. She's taking it in for an alignment and wheel balance today but I'm worried that the vibration is due to me not "pressing" the axle back into the backside of the hub assembly. Could this be a simple fix?

Hello Brittonp83

It's possible that the vibration issue you're experiencing is related to the CV axle not being properly seated in the hub assembly. When the axle is dislocated and not properly aligned, it can cause vibrations during driving. While pushing the rotor/hub assembly back onto the shaft may have seemed to align the splines, it's possible that it's not fully engaged or that the alignment is slightly off.

Getting an alignment and wheel balance is a good step to take, as it will help ensure that any potential alignment issues are corrected and the wheels are properly balanced. However, if the vibration persists after the alignment and balance, it would be recommended to inspect the CV axle and hub assembly again.

To address the issue, it's best to disassemble the affected side and properly align the CV axle with the hub assembly. Ensure that the splines are aligned correctly and that the axle is fully seated into the hub assembly. Be sure to check the condition of the CV axle boot as well, as it may need to be replaced if it was damaged during the dislocation.

Sorry it took so long for a response, but yes the alignment and balance fixed it. Thanks.
