Nissan 300ZX Repair Question

Rear suspension noise
I have a 1984 Nissan 300ZX 6-3.OL-FI 2 wheel drive, 2 seater. Mileage approximately 100,000.
While driving feels like and sounds like rear shocks were bad. Replaced them. Still felt the same and made bumping sound in rear. Was informed by a mechanic that I needed to replace the entire rear Suspension member assembly because the member mounting insulators were worn out. Told me that's why the ride felt like the shocks were bad. Is it really necessary to replace the whole assembly! The term he used was "sub-frame". Area to note is where the date is displayed, under boot. Thanks.

Looking at the picture i wonder if it could be the cv joint. try turning the axle with the car up in the air, if there is any excessive give then that would cause the bumping you say it makes. the axle looks a little off from the picture.

CV boot, right, I know it's bad but what about the question of the sub frame(suspension member)

I have a 1984 Nissan 300ZX 6 cylinder 161,000 miles. CV joint rear sespension looks bad. Do I need to take it to a shop or can I do it myself? Thanks
