1996 Nissan 200SX 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 174000 miles

i was driving my car hom and it started to sputter like i didnt have any gas. well i know that i did so i kept going then it just stoped. well it will turn over like it might start but it acts like itd flooded. they checked to fuel pump , changed the spark plugs, now the think it might be out of time. please advise
