Shuts off when braking

Hi, my car shuts off when I brake or slow down without any warning. It runs and starts smoothly. Mileage on the car is 82,000. Sometimes there is a smell of burning oil and recently the low oil warning lights has come on. Servicing and oil change done in December 2012.

We need to start with checking the oil level. I think you are low on oil and the engine is shutting down when the oil pressure is dropping.

If you serviced it 4-5 months prior then we could be low on oil. Here is a guide that will help with this:

If the oil level is okay then we need to check the pressure. Again, it could be shutting down due to this so we need to make sure it is ok due to the light coming on.
