1997 Mitsubishi Verada replacing cost of heater core

1997 Mitsubishi Verada 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 19400 miles
I have my car which Heater Core Has gone. I am confused about the replacing cost. From one workshop I have got the replacing price over 1000 dollar. Will you please inform me the place where I will able to replace it in cheaper cost and why should I need so much money. I am here at Canberra, ACT.
