Engine vibration

2004 Mitsubishi Galant, It runs and rides smooth when moving, but when I apply the brake at a full stop and sit with my foot on the brake peddle to keep it from moving such as at a stop light, it vibrates so hard that it shakes the whole car. When I take my foot off the brake and accelerate, the vibration stops. Then, when I stop again, it starts again. You can even hear the vibration. I also noticed when I turn on the a/c or turn the defogger the engine shakes even more.I had a dianostics test done and no problems or codes came up. I changed the motor mounts last september and after they were changed the vibration was still there. Any ideas on what it most likely is?

Hello there,

I have Mitsubishi EK Wagon, Auto-transmission, 2008, H82W.

Belt tensioner vibrates and flutters excessively on lower RPMs, especially when AC is on. Much more loud graggling sound comes out when AC it's on. Vibration and graggling sound both disappear as RPM increases our decreases from a certain range. No RPM meter in my car to tell you exact range.

I wonder what causes tensioner to vibrate and flutter! Can it be alternator pulley, weak/lose belt or tensioner itself? Power steering is working as normal.

Looking forward, thanks

A worn belt is one of the reasons tensioners vibrates. The other reason is a failing tensioner.

Today we purchased a 2003 outlander XLS with 51000 miles, 2.5 L. On the way home it started vibrating every time we shifted into high gear between 38-42 mph about 2500 rpm? We need to know if we should return it asap or what to do?
Please help, it's a new car for my son.
