I have a 2004 mitsubishi endeavor, I believe 6 cylinder engine. I do not know anything about a cars engine. I've been having a "pinging" problem with my car for sometime. Have taken it in and was adviced to use an octane booster. Which I have and its reduced the pinging slightly, but I can't get rid of it. I'm wondering exactly whats causing it. It happens when I excelerate. Also how much should I anticipate paying to get this problem repaired? Thanks so much for your time.

Hi chamorita and welcome to 2carpros-

Hafa adai

You tried the octane booster didn't worked-I recommend you have the knock sensor and EGR valve checked/tested-

The knock sensor if it doesn't sense the pinging/detonation is will not retard the ignition timing

The same as the EGR valve-if it doesn't open -combustion chamber will rise and the level of oxides of nitrogen will also increase that will make the engine ping/detonate also an overheating engine-
