Rubbing noise coming from the front whilst in 2WD. Have had front wheel bearings replaced, front discs checked & new brake pads installed.

Possible cause: After driving on sand, returned to sealed road with 4WD engaged, & by mistake diff lock engaged. After completeing the turn on a the sealed road, there was a loud bang from the front of the car. Car stopped & all transmission modes checked & all seems OK. After a few days of driving the car in 2WD there is a rubbing noise coming from the front which reduces when speed is reduced until there is a clunk sound when the car is stopped. Once the car is driven again, there is no noises until it randomely appears again. After having the bearings replaced, & discovered that the problem still exists, I shifted into 4WD whilst driving & the noise stops. This has been our fix whenever the noise returns whilst in 2WD.

Has anyone looked at the differential? Not familiar with that vehicle, but if it has a limited slip unit in the front it could be damaged. Try having the tech run it on the rack to see if the noise is in the diff or maybe the transfer case
