Engine Performance problem
1996 Mitsubishi Magna 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I own a 1996 Mitsubishi Magna TE executive. The average fuel consumption that I have heard from many people is about 500kms/tank (tank is 70 L). To check the efficiency of my car I had filled up the fuel tank and it gave me 250 kms for half a tank which was as expected. But as soon I reached the half tank mark the efficiency went down and I could see the fuel level fall down rapidly as I was driving. In the remaining half tank I have managed to get only around 150 kms. Seeing this pattern I wonder if there is a problem with my gauge? I have bought this card second hand and it has 200,000kms done. Also I drive it as carefully as possible (along with monitoring Tyre pressure) and try to extract maximum fuel efficiency. What can I do to improve my fuel efficiency?

Hi there,

fuel gauges can be very unreliable, they often take forever to move off full then they seem to drain away rather alarmingly, what you need to do is fill up the tank, drive highway as close to 100Km, s as you can and then re fill. Thi sis the best way to get a highway consumption that is fairly accurate, do 100Km's re fill with 10 litres = 10 litres per 100km's. You can do the same in city driving to get a comparison.
