2001 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution fuel pump

A week ago I was driving my car and out of the blue it just cut out. I tryed starting it for ages but no good then all of a sudden it started no problem for a week until yesterday driving home and then the car just lost power and would not start. U know when u turn on the ignition u can hear the fuel pump prime well its not doing that and I did a check on the pump ran 12 volts across the pump and it started not a bother. Think that it could be a faulty fuel pump relay?
