1997 Mitsubishi Lancer vibrations when air conditioning is

my car vibrates a lot when I have the air conditioning on and select drive or reverse. The vibrating continues until I apply the accelerator. So if I stop at a light I have to nuetral the engine, the air condition is not very cool either.
